Whether it’s your first year of college or you’re a returning post-secondary student, you need to be as prepared as possible when beginning a new term. Read on to find out our top tips for starting your school year off right!
Planning
Whether you prefer to plan your week in an agenda or through a calendar app, keeping your schedule and tasks organized is going to be essential. Before the school year starts, make sure to be clear on exactly when your classes are, and add in any extra appointments or social events as the year goes on. Knowing what to expect from the week ahead helps you stay focused and on track.
Study Area
While preparing to go back to school, decide on where you intend to do most of your studying. At home, this space should preferably be an area that is clean, organized, and free from distraction. (ie: not right in front of the TV!). Leave your options open too, sometimes it’s nice to study outside of your own home; at a library, coffee shop, or even in a park if you’re still able to catch some sunshine!
Routine
It’s August, and you might be on a more relaxed schedule, but it’s good to try and get into the habit of waking up earlier before the term even starts. That way when school begins, it will be easier to get into the routine and feel energized for the day ahead.
Finances
Before you get too busy with studying and assignments, make sure to tie up any loose ends financially. With things like your student loans in order, and a plan set to take care of living expenses while you are in school, you will be able to focus fully on your learning experience and get the most out of your program.
Transportation
Knowing your route and how long it will take you to get to school is something you should know beforehand, especially if this is your first time at a new location. Be sure to visit your campus before actually starting your courses, so you are familiar with the location and what time you need to leave your home in order to arrive on time. If driving isn’t an option, look into available transit routes. In Vancouver, there is almost always a bus or a train that will get you where you need to be.
